Information from Sheryl Stone, Executive Director
Welcome to our summer update! This spring has definitely been an interesting one, COVID-19 has affected many of us. At the Camp we were hoping and praying that summer would look somewhat as it has always been, a place to gather! As we watch the relaunch of Alberta’s businesses and following the recommendations and guidelines has brought us to the following decisions for the summer.
Our summer camp program, the reason why Mulhurst Camp is here! However with sad hearts we sent out letters to our program camp families today stating that in person programming at camp will not be happening. Overnight camp programs fall into Stage 3 of relaunch. So this brings us to our first stream of revenue cut from our camp at the moment. We are excited, though, to have been given the opportunity through Canada Summer Jobs grants to still hire our summer staff. Mulhurst is looking forward to having these energetic individuals grace our camp with their presence. Mulhurst Camp would still love to have campers young and old, join us in snippets of our camp program! From wherever you are however you are! Keep an eye out for online skits, songs, campfires and live chats, we will let you know through our Facebook page and website, stay tuned! Summer staff will also be shifting their job description a bit and bringing their skills to other projects we are eager to do around the camp.
Onto our rental facilities they have experienced cancellations since the middle of March and do not have anything on the calendar until middle of September. Yes we have lost significant revenue and would love to be open to help our camp out. However, we are a business and must follow all recommendations set forth by the province. Our facility is a place of gathering of individuals, that are not from the same household, who would then be sharing meals and washroom facilities, therefore we at this time can not open this part of our camp up. We are hoping and praying that soon this situation will change.
We are excited to say our Seasonal campground is up and running. Each individual site is self contained. Guidelines were agreed upon and provided at the beginning of the season, public washrooms are closed and individuals are encouraged to maintain the recommended social distancing guidelines when gathering outside. As for the rental campground we will continue to fill to half capacity. All individuals entering the campground are expected to follow rules and regulations set out by the provincial government and provide to them upon registration.
